Hawthorne Street has longed to see the people who indsicriminately dump trash on our corners busted. We have tried, in our own way, to agitate to get neighbors involved in identifying those responsible. But we have been slack.
Fortunately, Carmen has picked up the baton and run with it and her work has paid off. Today, she helped nail one of the chief offenders: Isaac Pollak. The photo at right was taken by Carmen last week (and featured on The Q at Parkside) at one of a series of dumping spots that Mr. Pollak's van hit, trailing garbage throughout PLG.
This wasn't the first time that Carmen's camera had caught Mr. Pollack. The last time, after initially defaulting by failing to appear at an Environmental Control Board hearing, it appears that counsel for Mr. Pollack showed up the day after the hearing was scheduled, presented evidence with nobody there to dispute it, and had the violation tossed.
Today, apparently, is a different story. According to Carmen, the Sanitation Police staked out Mr. Pollak's place of business, watched as he loaded trash into his minivan and then followed him through PLG as he dumped his garbage on seven different corners. After he completed his rounds, they stopped him and impounded his vehicle. Justice!
Thanks for all of your good work, Carmen.
