A new bookstore is opening just outside the border of PLG, at 327 Rogers
Avenue, near Montgomery (
gmap). Daddy's Basement is holding its grand opening
tomorrow, September 11, from 10 am to 7 pm. The shop will sell all kinds
of books, both new and used. I haven't seen the space yet, but owner
Shara Henry tells me that they have quite a bit of fiction.
Opening festivities will include a reading by Nandi Keyi,
author of The True Nanny Diaries and Tonya Cherie Hegamin, the
award-winning children's author of Most Loved in All the World, as well as the music of
Blk Sonshine and
Masauko Chipembere.
Yay! A bookstore - how exciting. Although I'm creeped out to go into that basement... what's with the name?

I stopped by the bookstore this afternoon. The live music was going on at the time, so I couldn't really shop, but it seemed like they had a small but decent assortment of fiction and non-fiction books, and a nice welcoming atmosphere. I chatted with one of the owners, who was extremely friendly, and they are very interested in hearing suggestions from the community. I think a couple of comfy chairs for reading would a nice addition. It's only a short walk a couple blocks across Empire... definitely worth checking out!! Oh, and it's not actually in the basement.

We went on opening day, met the owner, Shara who is great. We bought a couple books one for me and one for our son we are enjoying already. Both titles I wouldn't have discovered if it weren't for browsing shelves at a brick and mortar bookstore. It's not in a basement. It's a lovely, welcoming space. Just a block or so North of Empire Blvd, quick walk. Very glad to have this store. Good luck to Shara and her husband. We'll be back for sure. Support this new business! Check them out.
