Woman Killed By Train at Prospect Park Station
A woman was killed early Saturday morning when she was hit by a southbound Q at the Prospect Park station. According to witnesses, the woman was attempting to cross the tracks when she was struck by the train.
While I'm not one to dispute the integrity of unnamed witnesses, this sounds like a suicide to me. Newspapers and train operators routinely conspire to under-report suicides on the tracks because of a valid fear that the press coverage will lead to copycats. However this woman died, our sympathy goes out to her family.

How does it "sound like a suicide"? It's a tragedy either way. Based on the time that it happened, she may have used poor judgment. Sat night, a possible couple of drinks, the tracks look deceptively clear and safe to cross. Very sad

It sounds like a suicide to me because (a) none of the witnesses are quoted or identified; (b) Prospect Park station connects the north- and southbound platforms with staircases at both ends so there is no need to run cross the tracks; and (c) the journalistic custom of obfuscation and/or ignoring subway suicides.

That theory still seems a bit far fetched, and based on news reports, it looks like it was simply poor judgement on her part. There is no need to swim on a beach w/o lifeguards but tragically - poeople still do it.
