New Sit-Down Restaurant Now Open on Flatbush

Cafe-exhale-menu After well over a year in the making, Cafe Exhale (591 Flatbush, between Midwood and Rutland) opened its doors last night. Our camera battery died but we managed to escape with a copy of the menu, which caters to Continental fare with a Caribbean flair. The place itself resembles an upscale bar, with dark granite flooring and elegant fixtures.

Owner Paul Delapenha lived in the neighborhood for many years and still considers it a home away from home. Now that his restaurant his here it's more than that — it's his workplace. (Wheee!)

We're eager to check out the restaurant; we'll report back here to let you know what we think.

Did this restaurant open and close almost immediately? Whenever I pass I see a banner that says 'Coming Soon".

No, it's open. Charles and I went a couple of weeks ago. The food was good but they only gave us two choices and they seemed surprised that someone was actually eating there. Also, it took about 45 minutes to get our food, even though we were the only people there.

The owner told us that they'd have the full menu in a week or so but we haven't been back since. We're willing to give it another shot, but they don't seem to be taking the whole "let's open a restaurant" thing seriously.
