Gandhi: New Indian Restaurant Coming to Bedford
King of Tandoor is about to get some competition. A flyer (a lot of flyers, actually...) showed up on my doorstep yesterday from Gandhi, a new Indian restaurant that opens tomorrow (March 10). Gandhi will be at 2032 Bedford Avenue, between Parkside and Clarkson.
Gandhi is operated by the same people responsible for Joy in Prospect Heights. I am a big fan of Joy and am glad to have them in the neighborhood. Gandhi will have the same menu as Joy but the prices in PLG will be a bit lower.
The website isn't up yet but should be soon. Gandhi will be open from noon to 10PM (10:30 on Friday and Saturday) and, of course, will have delivery (718-282-7012 / -7016).

I'm a big fan of Joy as well, and welcome their spawn/spin-off to the neighborhood. My hopes are that a) it's as good as Joy, b) it can find a solid sit-down customer base in that part of the neighborhood, and c) while I'm all for free market competition, it would be a shame if there was only enough business for one Indian place and they ended up eating (or rather selling) King of Tandoor's lunch.
Of course, since King of Tandoor and Sushi Tatsu do the vast majority of their business as deliveries, then price/quality/delivery speed are going to be more important than location.
But hey, if 6th st. in the East Village can support 20 Indian places, surely PLG can swing two? We all just have to eat twice as much.

That spot has been so troubled my entire life. Dougies was real good(two stores ago). I'm hoping this restaurant is great, and survives.

Hmm, there are loads of places with better foot traffic to put a sit down indian restaurant but I guess you need to start with one. Best of luck to them.

King of Tandoor is in one of those places and nobody eats in, brn442. I think Gandhi is expecting most business to come from delivery. I haven't seen the interior, though, so I could be wrong.

The interior is very cute. It's not the fanciest, but they did create a nice sit down environment. They also mentioned BYOB is welcome at their location.

I happened to pass by there yesterday so I took a menu and a look at the place. It's cute, clean and a guy who seemed to be the manager was standing at the door with a big friendly smile on his face. We'll order from Gandhi this weekend.

I couldn't get an answer at that number, so I called Joy and they gave me (718) 282-7012. Gandhi picked up at that number.

Ron: Gandhi lists both numbers on their menu. I'm not sure why I chose to list only one in the post. I'll add -7012 to the body of the post. Thanks.

Great news! About two years ago my wife and I called Joy wandering if they would deliver to our neighborhood and they said that they didn't but that their sister restaurant, Bombay Masala (Franklin Ave at Prospect Pl.) did. So we ordered from them for a over a year (same menu/quality as Joy) before we gave King of Tandoor a try. Tandoor is just as good as Joy, IMO edging them out in a few areas. Plus the delivery is quicker because they are right in our neighborhood. If you haven't tried any of the shag dishes, they are great! As someone else already mentioned, let's hope that they don't over compete with one another!

My hope is that they'll do some serious flyering/menu distro south of Parkside. The two restaurants serve different different subway stops. The population should be dense enough to sustain both, if only people find Gandhi.... Bedford doesn't get anywhere near the foot traffic that Flatbush does.
