Huge voter turnout in PLG
I look forward to seeing what the final voting numbers for our neighborhood are. If the lines are any indication, they are going to be very, very high. I got on line to vote at P.S. 92 at ~8:15 AM; the line stretched all the way down Parkside, turned the corner at Bedford, turned the corner again at Winthrop and extended far enough back to look through the P.S. 92 schoolyard to see people entering the school to vote. I voted at 10:30.
According to a friend who lives on Bedford, when he looked out his window shortly after 6AM, the line was already stretched past his door - so he hurried out to get on line as soon as possible. He took video of the line (coincidentally as I joined the end of it) and we should be able to get that online later today.
After I voted, the line (pictured here) still wrapped around to Winthrop. And Hawthorne Street hadn't even given an (official) endorsement!
UPDATE: Brooklyn Ron has video of the line:

Here's the funny thing, there was also a polling location at IS 2, at 655 Parkside. The wait there was only about 5 minutes. Thanks NYC Board of Elections.
I do have to say I met some lovely people from the neighborhood in line and drivers (both car and bus) were great at honking and cheering us on.

The lines were definitely long this morning, and there was some frustration at my polling place due to broken machines; but I have to say the overall feeling is very festive. It was kind of like a big block party but without the food and drink.
Regarding discrepancies in wait times, I think the district boundaries have not been updated in a long time. Still, you'd think they'd have the brains to put more machines at the more populated sites. *shrug*

I just [@ 1:20]got back from voting at PS 92 on Parkside, bet. Bedford & Rogers. The lines were moderately long, but very fast moving. The whole process only took 15 minutes, in part because there was NO line for the 69th ED (covering my block--Midwood II) and an election worker came out looking for people who voted there. Even without that, it wouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes longer.
ALSO, people over 64 can use the handicapped entrance. This would have only saved a few minutes now, but might save a lot of time if the lines lengthen later.

It took me 2 hours to vote today, with a baby in tow. Thankfully, I came prepared for the wait and the people on line were in a great mood and the kids were playing together, so it wasn't bad at all. I'm really happy with the turnout and am looking forward to getting the paper first thing in the morning to add to my scrapbook :)

i voted at the 655 parkside location around 2 p.m. and i didn't even have to wait to use the voting booth. (although there wasn't an exterior line left at your polling place either-- which, oddly enough, i have to walk by to get to mine from my house...)

We've been in PLG for less than three years so this was the first time I've voted during a presidential election. The 3 or 4 times I've been to vote, there as been no line at all. I'd be curious to hear from people who have been here longer how the turnout was compared to previous presidential elections.

Carrie,
In response to your question, I've voted in 9 presidential elections since moving to PLG. I've seen some where the lines were as long as they were in mid-afternoon today and I considered that a heavy turnout. I've never seen or heard of anything remotely like the 2+ hour waits people reported this morning.

I voted at PS 6 on Snyder Avenue this morning at 7am and the line stretched two blocks back along Bedford Avenue to Church Avenue and it took me just under two hours to vote.

I was amazed to see how many election districts were serviced by that one building. I guess PLG is just a spot with alot of gerrymandered overlapping city, state and fedral districts.
BTW I think IS 2 and PS 92 are in the same building (it's the same address according to Google). I went to vote about 6:00 and the line was about 15 mins.
