Garbage on Maple Street
In an earlier post about the new garbage corral at 15 Hawthorne I erroneously reported that 11 Maple had recently received a similar structure.
How wrong I was! One person is so fed up that he has posted a slideshow of a month in the life of the trash outside the building. The author gives kudos to the management at 10 Maple, an identical building, for responsible trash handling so we will as well.
Good luck getting the street cleaned up, Kyle.

Now I know that Kyle's intentions here are nothing but good, but I beseech you to remember that the super of the building works very hard for less than stellar compensation, I'm sure.
But, if the garbage is so bothersome, why not enact some actual, physical change in the situation, instead of playing the back-and-forth game with the unresponsive municipalities?
This is not a broken elevator or leaky ceiling; the expertise of a skilled professional is not necessary to fix this problem. What is needed is our ability to take concrete actions instead of the "virtual" effort such as a slideshow.
Have you tried speaking with the super or landlord? Speaking with residents, or organizing a meeting to discuss the matter? These are all ways that may be more immediately effective and more human-based, taking the anonymity out of the process.

I lived at 11 Maple St for a year and yup, it looked like that every day. While the landlord was nice the trash issue didn't seem to be a priority for him.

Happy to hear the landlord is "nice." That must be a new definition for someone who treats his tenants and neighbors with such total disregard. Maybe some fines from Sanitation would make trash a priority...

As I pass by 11 Maple Street
almost daily, I was prompted
to register a complaint with
the sanitation dept when, on
one occasion, I noticed vermin
crawling around the site.
According to the sanitation
inspector, this building is
in violation because the
garbage bags and cans are
often left uncovered. I was assured that sanitation
would make random inspections and fine the
landlord if violations were
found. I was advised by
sanitation to encourage
others to lodge complaints,
as well, and hopefully,
with perserverance and
sanctions from the sanitation dept., the landlord would
improve the situation.
