Destination: Maple Street School

The Maple Street School recently published a demographic survey of its students' families and I was surprised to see that only about 28% live in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. The rest come from Prospect Heights (8.6%), Bed Stuy (6.9%), Fort Greene/Clinton Hill (6.9%), Kensington (6.9%), and other nearby neighborhoods. Mercy! Who would have thought that PLG was a destination for childcare?

I had heard that many MSS families weren't from PLG, but I always assumed that the non-PLGers came from places like Ditmas Park, further south on the Q & B lines, attracted by the ease of dropping their kids off right next to the Prospect Park station. I was surprised that, of the other nerighborhoods listed, only Prospect Heights is near those subway lines.

PLG is not a destination for childcare. MSS is a destination for childcare.
