Conflagration at Culpepper's?
Latest news from Nostrand Ave: it appears that a (hopefully minor) fire occurred some time before Saturday night at this neighborhood institution. It's hard to tell the extent of the damage, but the storefront has been boarded up and the awning is in tatters. We sincerely hope most importantly that nobody was hurt, and secondly that Culpepper's reopens for business soon. I'm not sure how long I can make it without their delicious flying fish and macaroni pie. But in the meantime, I'll be heading over to Hammond's Jerk Center for nourishment.
As an aside, a sign on the building that houses Culpepper's notes that the building is for sale (realtor: Marcus & Millichap, ask $1.15M). Advertisement via Property Shark notes that the "Storefront (would be a) Great Candidate for Franchise Retailer ie. Dunkin Donuts, Subway". While I don't think this is related to the fire, I certainly hope that the new owners have the good sense to greet Culpepper's with open arms.

Culpepper's is has reopened.
