Hidden Restaurant Gem in PLG?
Like anyone else, I often complain about the dearth of good
restaurants in PLG. What I didn't realize is that there has been a
place I should have been going right under my nose.
When Saul Bolton, chef and proprietor of Smith Street favorite Saul, was asked to name a good restaurant that nobody is talking about by the New York Times, he said “Scoops in Prospect-Lefferts, Brooklyn: Rasta veggie takeout. Simple. Good.” It turns out that this isn't the first time utterly nondescript Scoops— at the T of Flatbush and Fenimore—has garnered praise: a vegan, a Chowhounder and the Village Voice have all piped up to say that they are fans.

Veggie Hut, very close to Scoops on Flatbush is also very good. Great smoothies. Great additive options, and great fast dinner.

Scoops is good, veggie Hut also has the best veggie patties I've ever had, but the king of all veggie fast food is the veggie castle on Church bet. flatbush and bedford. It is wonderful with soooo many yummy options. I love the squash and the BBQ veggie drumsticks with corn.
Also, there are plenty of good restaurants here. Just because it's not slick like park slope doesn't mean it ain't good. We have friends in Park Slope who would rather come to PLG or just go into manhattan. This desire for these types of restaurants and services is a fuel the gentrification of our neighborhood. Those of us with limited income and of a darker hue have already been driven out of so many other parts.
